Scope & subjects
The event will focus on interpreting: skills, specialisations, technical background, platforms, etc.
When submitting a proposal, bear in mind that attendees prefer presentations where they can learn something practical. This could be a niche specialisation, a unique skill, tips on finding clients in a certain area, the impact of AI in a specific field, various tools and resources, and much more.
Workshops (19 January)
We’ll have up to six workshops on Tuesday, 19 January, each with a duration of 2 and half hours.
A workshop may be presented by a single person, or by up to 3 people. In this latter case, this group of presenters may host a workshop for a specialization with several shorter topics, while keeping the workshop format with interactive exercises.
Sessions (20 January)
We’ll have 10+1 sessions on Wednesday, 20 January, each with a duration of 2 and half hours.
The duration of each session will be 45 minutes, ideally with 30-35 minutes of actual presentation, and 10-15 minutes of Q&A.
Alternatively, you may host an interactive session with more audience involvement — write down your idea in your application.
Multilingual event?
We might even have a multilingual event if there’s sufficient demand.
Feel free to propose a session or a workshop in a language other than English — then we’ll see if there’s enough interest.
The application and selection process
You may submit up to three applications, using the application form here. Please fill in the form for each application.
Applications in languages other than English are welcome. Please fill in the entire form in the language of your proposed presentation.
As usual at BP Translation Conferences, the potential audience will have a say in the selection process. Usually, 80-90% of all proposals are included in a survey, where people can vote if they would like to see each presentation in the programme.
For larger events, we usually have two rounds of voting, in which case the first round is anonymous, i.e. only the titles and short abstracts are shown, but not the speakers’ names. In this case, some 30-40% of the proposed subjects will make it to a shortlist, and attendees can vote again, this time seeing the names as well.
First-time speaker?
Speaking at an online event is a great way to gain confidence and to get acknowledged as an expert in an area.
After presenting at an online event, you may also successfully apply as a speaker at in-person events such as our annual BP Translation Conferences. In fact, quite a few regular conference speakers started off at BP.
Also, we provide a practial guide to our speakers, and offer online consultation in the months leading up to the event.
Live online sessions/workshops
Ideally, and if there’s sufficient interest, we’ll also have an online edition two weeks later (1-5 February).
We’ll repeat the presentations and workshops online, on Zoom.
Compensation
All speakers will attend the event for free. If all goes well (i.e. sufficient number of tickets are sold), the dinners are also included.
You may also attend one workshop for free. (If sufficient number of tickets are sold, you may attend 3 workshops.)
Workshop speakers will probably get more, but now it’s too early tell how much more. (If sufficient number of tickets are sold, probably 200€ against an invoice, or 250€ discount of another BP event.)

Registration / Tickets (Valencia)
Ticket types
The Basic ticket will include the conference day on 20 January at a reasonable price.
The Premium ticket will include both the workshop day (19 January) and the conference day (20 January), as well as 2 dinners.
You’ll be able to buy ticket to individual workshops and dinners.
More details about ticket types, prices, and their exact content will be available when registration opens (probably early October).
How do I register for the conference?
Registration opens around early October. Until then, sign up above as interested so that we can send you a notification.
The following information will be valid once registration opens
To register, select the type of ticket on this page.
Click on ‘Add to Cart’ under the items you wish to buy, then click on the blue ‘View cart’ link that appears next to this button.
Click through the Cart page to open the Checkout page. Here, you should enter your billing details. At the bottom of the page, select your preferred method of payment.
For bank and Wise transfers, enter the 5-digit order number in the comment field (starting with 6). DO NOT enter your name or the items you purchased.
There’s no physical ticket, and there’s no QR code.
Once your payment arrives, you’ll receive an invoice, and we’ll keep track of all purchases, so we’ll know who bought a ticket.
You may need to produce an ID card at the event when picking up your badge and conference bag.
Conference prices
Prices will be available shortly before registration. We’ll try to keep the prices at an affordable level.
21% VAT on all sales
All ticket sales are subject to a 21% Spanish VAT.
In line with article 53 of the European Union’s VAT directive, the place of delivery of in-person events is the country where the event takes place.
Also, the reverse charge mechanism cannot be applied, which means that you must pay VAT even if you purchase your ticket as a company.
The good news is that you can claim back this VAT amount if your company has an EU VAT number, or if you are based in a handful of other countries (including the UK and Switzerland).
How to claim back VAT
You can claim back the VAT amount if your company is based in the EU (but not in Spain) and you have a valid EU VAT number.
- You’ll need to apply for a refund at your country’s tax authority
- Minimum amount that can be refunded: 50€
- Submit the request between 1 January and 30 September 2028
- Ask your accountant for details
Companies in certain countries (CA, CH, IS, JA NO, MC) can also claim back VAT, but they need to appoint a Spansh fiscal representative, which costs much more than the amount of VAT on your ticket.
If you’re an individual, you cannot claim back VAT 🙁 Perhaps team up with a colleague who can claim back VAT, and buy your tickets together.
Contact us for more details.
Invoicing
Since the event takes in Spain, all in-person tickets will be be issued with our Spanish VAT number.
Card payment
You’ll receive an automatically generated invoice as soon as the payment transaction is processed.
At first, you’ll receive an automated pro forma invoice.
When your payment arrives, and we check all invoice details, you’ll receive your actual invoice.
How much money do I need in total?
You’ll need to pay for your flight or train tickets, and this, obviously, greatly varies according to where you live. As a rule of thumb, the earlier you buy your ticket, the cheaper it is.
Accommodation: We have a special deal at the conference hotel (see above). Check other sites as well, as rooms may be cheaper on Booking.com or similar sites during certain periods.
You can save a substantial amount if you can find a roommate to split the costs. If you stay more than just a couple of days, renting a holiday apartment may be a cheaper and more comfortable option, especially if you can split the costs between 3-4 or more people.
Under The Venue section above, you can find information about cheaper hotels in the vicinity of the conference hotel.
You may want to set aside some money for fringe events such as walking tours, day trips, as well as museum entrance fees, meals, and souvenirs.
Where does my money go?
Over half the amount of your ticket covers conference room rental, equipment rental, as well as catering at the event.
We also need to cover speakers’ costs, organizer’s expenses, as well as badges, bags, notepads, pens.
A part of the ticket revenue covers various licences (conference app, a dozen or so software subscription fees, and so on).
Oh, and a sizeable chunk is paid to the coffers as various taxes.
Cancellation policy
We’ll have an updated, event-specific cancellation policy before registration starts.

As usual, we’ll offer discount for students (probably 40%) and recent graduates (about 20%).

The conference itself
I don't know anybody -- can I still go?
Absolutely!
BP Translation Conferences have a reputation of bringing people together. We put a special emphasis on welcoming first-time attendees.
Our networking dinners are highly popular, with over 70% attending both the welcome reception and the gala dinner.
The majority of first-timers usually integrate easily into the conference crowd.
We usually have a networking game to facilitate mingling, and you can also use the conference app to connect with fellow attendees.
The event app
An event app will help you connect with otheer attendees — you’ll be able to search by specialisation, languages, or keywords.
The app will also have a message board, and obviously the programme itself.
All in-person attendees will have access to the app, as well as remote attendees with Remote Premium or Remote VIP tickets.
The app will be available from late February until late May.
