We all have quiet periods at times where we send messages to potential customers, be it agencies or direct customers.
Many are binned within seconds of being received. The criteria applied by every individual may vary but there are a number of quick checks which are common to many. I will address these from the perspective of an agency. Direct customers probably apply similar checks.
The criteria relate to the text in the message, the email address used, the title of the message, etc. For example, a number in your email address will be enough to delete your carefully written message. People who buy addresses often use similar subjects, such as “perfect translations”, which means the recipient would delete the message without opening it. Not including the language combination or including too many.

The translation scammers directory is used by agencies to check potential translators as well. Direct customers are probably not aware of this useful resource.

The purpose of the talk is to make sure your marketing efforts are not in vain, i.e. increasing your success rate.
