A guaranteed monthly income can seem like the holy grail for translators stuck in the feast or famine cycle. Not only is it stressful having an income that fluctuates, but it’s frustrating when your clients are subject to change. Working on a retainer basis with a few well-chosen clients can be both a great relief and a way to forge a strong relationship with a company. This presentation looks at the pros, the cons and the “How the heck do I do that?” issues involved in retainer models. Could retainers work for your business?
Jo Rourke talks a LOT. She talks so much that she’s going to talk on two days at BP19. Luckily for you she’s okay at it – it’s kind of her job. She’s been a translator and copywriter for, ahem, a while (16 years) and she mostly works from Spanish into English. For copywriting she sticks to English. It’s safer (more opportunity for puns.) She specialises in talking, translating, talking, copywriting and talking. You’ll understand when you see her.
This session is scheduled for Thursday, 2 May 2019.
The exact time and room will be announced by mid-April.
